Roles
Who is responsible for what
The Intern
Student- 01Complete registration to receive academic credit for the internship.
- 02Report to work on assigned days and hours negotiated with the Host Agency.
- 03Perform all assigned tasks to the best of your ability.
- 04Stay available for consultation with the faculty internship coordinator.
- 05Submit all five graded deliverables on schedule.
The Host Agency
Provider- 01Provide practical work experience of professional relevance.
- 02Offer a variety of work experiences to the intern.
- 03Coordinate a meeting time with the faculty internship coordinator.
- 04Discuss any misunderstandings with the coordinator before acting.
- 05Complete the host agency evaluation form.
- 06Flag attendance, punctuality, or attitude concerns early.
- 07Provide office space, equipment, supplies, and support.
- 08Offer informal counseling on tasks and progress.
- 09Acknowledge the intern is not a regular employee for benefits purposes.
The Coordinator
Faculty- 01Be available for consultation with the intern and host at agreed times.
- 02Visit or call the intern and provider at the work place at least once.
- 03Meet with the provider to evaluate performance at the end of the term.
- 04Keep the Terms of Agreement and Waiver of Liability on file.
Schedule
The semester at a glance
Week 0
Register for academic credit and sign the Terms of Agreement.
Weeks 1–6
Log hours, keep the daily journal, and meet with the coordinator.
Mid-term
Supervisor reviews the journal during the first interview.
Weeks 7–12
Continue work; complete the 120-hour requirement.
Final week
Host completes the evaluation; submit the 5–6 page reflective paper.
Next semester
Deliver the formal PowerPoint presentation to entry-level classes.
